The making of...Ode to Anubis

ODE TO ANUBIS

Reclining on her engraved plinth, the street dog embodies Anubis. She rests still as a statue while worshippers adorn her. A crook and flail are placed against her sides, while a celestial bed in the form of the goddess Hathor is laid at her feet. Painted stone panels create a temple shape to surround her. She will weigh hearts for levity, and guide souls in the afterlife.

Sabina took great pleasure in illustrating this particular design, as you may notice Anubis holds a strong resemblance to our in-house model, Little Gin (pictured here modelling the finished scarf). Gin is Sabina’s dog, adopted from the streets of Cyprus in 2018. She fits perfectly into this tale with her street-dog background, and of course, the deification storyline came naturally to her.
