There are two books by two different photographers which were the major driving influence behind the Ritual Wilderness collection.
Firstly, ‘Before They Pass Away’ by Jimmy Nelson. This is an enormous tome of Nelson’s breathtaking portraits of endangered tribes around the world. There is so much beauty and detail in his images, Sabina had to narrow her study down to just a few tribes. Below are a selection of the images referenced in the drawings. You can see more of Jimmy Nelson’s photographs and purchase his book here.
The second book which heavily inspired the collection was ‘Natural Fashion: Tribal Decoration From Africa’ by Hans Silvester. Through capturing the vivid, yet intricate designs that adorn the faces and bodies of his subjects, Silvester strives to underscore the beauty and purity of nature, so you’re reminded again how beautiful a seed pod, a mushroom or a flower is. Silvester does not have a website, but you can view more of his images here.
