Koinobori Karasu High Neck Top

This High Neck Top is designed, printed and made in England from our sand-washed silk crepe Marocain; This flattering silk has a thick and buttery feel with a dusky, matte finish. This is a loose fit top with a standing collar, hip-length hemline and full-length sleeves. The garment is French seamed throughout and finished with a delicate pin hem. This top fastens with an invisible centre-back zipper.

This design references many elements of the arts and culture of Edo-period Japan. It features a folkloric Karasu (jungle crow) diving into the tempestuous Hokusai-inspired waves towards the lower left corner of the front panel. The bird clutches a golden-lacquered samurai sword and has become entangled in strings of koinobori (hand-painted, fish-shaped flags) which trail chaotically in its wake. The tumultuous tide sweeps elegantly around the entire garment in one flattering and elegant motion. The back of the garment features more swirling koinobori, and the sleeve cuffs are decorated with waves, hanko stamps and Japanese script.
