The Tsuba Print Waistcoat

The Wool Crepe Waistcoat is designed, printed and made in England. It is made from 100% wool inside and out, with a light, pure cotton wadding. The waistcoat was delicately hand quilted in-house at our London workshop. This piece was inspired by antique Japanese Jinbaori samurai waistcoats, traditionally worn over their armour. It has a voluminous fit with dropped armholes and a slightly tapered hem. It features a subtle stand collar and shallow front pockets. The waistcoat fastens with gunmetal snaps flanked by a turn-back detail. This garment features a complementary binding around every exposed edge, and a centre back split inspired by the Jinbaori.

This design features the intricate animal tsuba (sword guard) details illustrated within The Lunar Leopard design; Each tsuba depicts a different animal. This is a placement print, meaning every element of the print sits exactly in place, following the curve of the armhole and the sweep of the hem. The line drawing in this print has been left uncoloured, exposing the raw beauty of the pencil illustration.
