Wind Dancer, Heaven Caller Silk Twill Drape

This elegant shoulder drape is made in London from our beautiful silk twill. This garment drapes around the neckline to imitate a silk scarf thrown nonchalantly over one shoulder, the long tail end flowing behind the wearer. The Drape fastens at the left shoulder, using snaps secured onto a heritage grosgrain ribbon trim; The method of fastening is entirely concealed, affording an effortless and polished finish. This piece is finished with French seams and pin hems throughout, and features an exquisite placement print design, featuring Sabina’s original pencil rendering.

Notes on the monochrome print:

Chinese Song Dynasty critics and theorists formulated a rhetoric regarding the superiority of ink monochrome to colourful painting. These arguments take on a moralistic tone, suggesting that colourful painting is intended to please the eye and increase the attractiveness of the work, making it thus meretricious; Ink monochrome reveals the inner structure of the subject depicted instead of only the outer appearance, and so forth.

The aim of traditional Chinese animal painting was to capture not only the outer appearance of a subject but the inner essence as well – its energy, life force, and spirit. To accomplish this often meant to reject the use of colour, which would serve only as a distraction. This was often referred to as ‘white painting’, the most famous of which is arguably ‘Night Shining White’ by Han Gan (742-756).
