SPOTLIGHT SERIES: THE SUN
This collection references the playful, colourful and exquisitely hand-crafted masks and costumes celebrated at FESTIMA, the Festival International des Masques et des Arts, held each year in Dédougou, Burkina Faso. In the vein of divination, this collection was also based on antique European tarot cards, their symbolisms and their meanings.
Enrobed in her embroidered costume, the giraffe calmly sits among the wilting sunflowers. Her blanket is worn as an ornate flag, announcing a change to come. She was chosen by her peers to play The Sun, and what a fitting performance it is. The birds flock to her side, bringing gifts and goodwill, seeking serenity and peace. She is light, she is hope, she is truth.
